The Philippine Statistics Authority arranges to conduct the 2016 Annual Survey on Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI) in the provinces of Caraga Region. Series of training were already conducted for the regional and provincial staffs involved in the project. Last March 28-29, 2017, the Regional Statistics Services Office 13 spearheaded by its Regional Director Rosalinda Celeste-Apura had conducted the second level training. Third level trainings were also held in the provincial offices last April 4-7, 2017. Respondents Forums were also arranged in the provinces within last week of April and first week of May 2017. Caraga’s economy grew by 2.5 percent in 2016, lower than the 4.5 percent posted in 2015. The main driver for the region’s growth was Services.Services accounted for the largest share in the region’s total economic output with 48.4 percent in 2016. Industry followed with 35.1 percent while Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry, and Fishing (AHFF) with 16.5 percent. Services expanded from 5.5 percent in 2015 to 8.7 percent in 2016. Financial Intermediation (FI) grew by 14.5 percent; Other Services by 10.5 percent; Trade and Repair by 8.7 percent; Transportation, Storage and Communication (TSC) by 7.8 percent; Public Administration and Defense (PAD) by 6.4 percent; and Real Estate, Renting and Business Activities (RERBA) by 6.2 percent. The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office XIII (Caraga) will conduct the April 2017 Labor Force Survey (LFS) from April 8 to 30, 2017. The LFS is a nationwide quarterly survey of households conducted by the PSA to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. The Consumer Expectations Survey (CES) is a household-based survey on the consumers’ assessment of their family income, financial situation, and the economic condition of the country. It is conducted on a quarterly basis and administered on a sample basis at the household level.The PSA’s responsibility is to undertake the data collection and encoding of the questionnaires while generation of tables and analysis of the results for the BSP. Inflation in NCR advanced 2.7 percent in December. AONCR, however, retained its November inflation figure of 2.6 percent. Eight regions exhibited higher annual rates during the month. Meanwhile, six regions had slower annual rates with Ilocos Region, CALABARZON and Davao Region maintaining their respective last month’s rates. The highest annual growth remained in Cagayan Valley at 4.9 percent while the lowest was still in CALABARZON at 1.5 percent. (Table 8) Among the regions in AONCR, the highest annual average inflation in 2016 at 3.2 percent was posted in Central Visayas and Davao Region while CALABARZON had the lowest average annual inflation at 0.9 percent.
