Poverty incidence among population is defined as the proportion of Filipinos whose per capita income cannot sufficiently meet the individual basic food and non-food needs. Based on the Preliminary Results of the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) in 2021, the poverty incidence among population in Caraga was estimated at 33.2 percent. This translates to around 924 thousand Caraganons who lived below the poverty threshold of about PhP 11,390 per month for a family of five. The subsistence incidence is defined as the proportion of Filipinos whose income is not enough to meet the basic food needs. Subsistence incidence among population in Caraga slightly increased by 2.8 percentage points than the estimate in 2018 and 4.7 percentage points lower in 2015 (Figure 1). It was estimated that a family of five in Caraga needed at least PhP 7,950, on average, to meet their family’s basic food needs in a month.

Among families, around 25.9 percent or 172 thousand Caraganon families were considered poor in 2021. Meanwhile, the subsistence incidence among families was estimated at 9.0 percent, which is equivalent to about 60 thousand food poor Caraganon families in 2021.
