In 2021, a total of 36,108 live births were registered in the region. More males (18,873 or 52.3%) were registered than females (17,235 or 47.7%). The Philippine Statistics Authority – Regional Statistical Services Office XIII (Caraga) will conduct the April 2023 Consumer Expectations Survey (CES). It is a nationwide quarterly household-based survey on the consumers’ assessment of their family income, financial situation, and the economic condition of the country. This is administered on a sample basis at the household level drawn through a stratified multi-stage random sampling. It is a joint undertaking between the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). The PSA’s responsibility is to undertake the data collection using Computer-Aided Data Collection System (CADaCS) while generating tables and analysis of the results for the BSP. The Press Conference for the Inflation Report of the Caraga Region for the month of February 2023 was conducted on February 17, 2023. The Press conference will provide valuable insights and data on the current inflation situation in the Caraga Region, The Philippine Statistics Authority of Caraga Regional Director Rosalinda C. Apura, D.M. presented the report to the onsite and online participants. Aside from the conduct of different surveys, we also started the 2022 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) wherein 60 Local Government Units (LGUs) in Caraga joined the 2022 roll-out. More coordination had been done and more Technical Working Groups (TWGs) had been created to rally support from our stakeholders. The Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) was able to pass 21 resolutions and conduct several trainings for its member agencies and LGUs. The RSC award received in 2022 as the Breakthrough RSC was indeed astounding. As of December 2022, the Caraga PhilSys team was able to register more than 2 million national ID registrants accounting for 82 percent of the target in the region. The Quarterly Palay Production Survey (PPS) and Corn Production Survey (CPS) are conducted simultaneously in all provinces of the region every first ten (days) of the month after the reference quarter (April for Quarter 1, July for Quarter 2, October for Quarter 3, and Quarter 4 is done during first 10 days of December to comply with the Philippine System of National Accounts). The production data generated from the survey are direct inputs to the Performance Report in Agriculture and Fisheries and to the computation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Moreover, the said reports support the data needs of planners, policy and decision makers, and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector especially palay and corn farmers and the general public.

The headline inflation in Caraga continued its uptrend as it accelerated further to 8.3 percent in February 2023, from 8.1 percent in January 2023 and 3.4 percent in February 2022. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Statistical Services Office XIII launches the region’s 2022 CBMS – Geotagging and Processing of Service Institutions and InfrastructureandGovernment Projects for the PSA-Funded localities. The CBMS Act thru its implementing rules and regulations defines geotagging as “the process of adding metadata about government projects, households/housing units, service facilities, and natural resources to various media and of uploading to a web-based application. To pave the way for easier and more convenient registration, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is disabling its online Step 1 registration portal and is fully implementing walk-in registration to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) nationwide.
