21 February 2025 – SURIGAO DEL NORTE. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Surigao del Norte celebrates the month of love by participating in the “Kasalan ng Bayan” in the different city/municipalities of the province. These events are more than a wedding ceremony, it represents a leap towards addressing the legal and familial issues faced by unmarried couples who have chosen to build families together.

On Valentine’s Day,14 February 2025, couples expressed their love and affection as they tied the knot during the “Kasalan ng Bayan.” Twelve couples were solemnized in the Municipality of San Francisco, 21 couples in the Municipality of Placer, 38 couples in the Municipality of Tagana-an, and  60  couples  in  the  Municipality  of  Socorro.  The  City  of  Surigao recorded the most, with 108 solemnized couples and had the oldest couple at 56 years old.

On 17 February 2025, the Municipality of Dapa facilitated marriages of 20 couples, while only one special couple in the Municipality of Burgos. The importance of marriage goes beyond the numbers and statistics; it establishes the identity of a person.
