In 2021, the total registered live births in Caraga totalled to 34,265. This showed a decrease of 4,483 or 11.57 percent from the previous year’s total registered births of 38,748. The figure below indicates a declining trend of registered live births from 2016 to 2021.

 

 

Among the provinces and highly urbanized city (HUC) in the region, the Province of Agusan del Sur recorded the highest number of registered live births in 2021 at 9,309 or 27.17 percent of the total. Close in figure is the Province of Surigao del Sur with 9,178 or 26.79 percent share. This was followed by the Province of Surigao del Norte with 5,983 or 17.46 percent and Agusan del Norte with 5,983 or 13.17 percent. Meanwhile, the City of Butuan ranked fifth at 4,370 or 12.75 percent while the Province of Dinagat Islands showed the lowest number of registered live births with 911 or 2.66 percent share.

 

 

In terms of registration by month of occurrence, the month of December had the lowest number of registered live births at 2,063 or equivalent to 67 live births per day. In contrast, the months of September and October showed the highest volume with the same daily average of 109. Daily average refers to the total registered live births per month over the number of days per month. 

 

 

With regards to birth registration by component city, the highest number of registered live births in 2021 was noted in Surigao City with a total of 1,864. This was followed by Bayugan City and Bislig City at 1,503 and 1,341, respectively. Fourth in rank is Tandag City at 1,053. On the other hand, Cabadbaran City showed the lowest number of registered births at 1,033.

 

 

Figure 5 shows the Top 5 municipalities in Caraga with the most number of registered births in 2021. The municipality that noted the highest number of births is the Municipality of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur at 1,246, followed by the Municipality of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur at 1,136. Rank third is the Municipality of Buenavista, Agusan del Norte at 872 while the Municipality of Barobo, Surigao del Sur is relatively closer at 841. Fifth in rank is the Municipality of Trento, Agusan del Sur at 803.

 

 

In 2021, there were more males born in Caraga than females, it is posted at 17,914 or 52.28 percent while its females counterparts accounts for 16,351 or 47.72 percent, resulting to a sex ratio at birth of 110 male births for every 100 female births.

Data presented in this release were obtained from the Certificates of Live Births (Municipal Form No. 102) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars of Caraga Region and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority. The information presented includes registered deaths from January to December 2021, preliminary as of 28 February 2022.
