Birth Statistics in Agusan del Sur, 2022

Province of Agusan del Sur recorded the highest registered live births in 2022

The total registered live births in Caraga for 2022 increased by 9.5 percent from 35,903 in 2021 to 39,603 in 2022. Agusan del Sur ranked first with registered live births of 10,831 or 27.3 percent share. Moreover, Surigao del Sur ranked second with registered live births of 10,138 (25.5% share) followed by Surigao del Norte with 7,053 (17.8% share) registered live births, City of Butuan with 6,707 (16.9% share) and Agusan del Norte with 4,006 (10.1% share). Among the provinces, the Province of Dinagat Islands got the lowest registered live births in Caraga with only 948 or 2.4 percent share. 

Figure 1 below shows the total number of registered live births in the provinces of Caraga for 2022.

More males were born than females

In 2022, more males (20,711 or 52.2% share) were born than females (18,972 or 47.8% share), resulting to sex ratio at birth of 109 males per 100 females. (Figure 2) 

Prosperidad tops in birth registration in the province

Figure 3 below shows comparison of the total number of registered live births in the municipalities of Agusan del Sur in 2021 and 2022.

Of the 10,831 registered live births in the province for 2022, Prosperidad posted the highest number of registered births with a total of 3,419 or 31.6 percent share of the total counts recorded. Bayugan City followed with total documented births of 1,651 or 15.2 percent share. Meanwhile, the Municipality of Bunawan ranked third among the highest registered live births in 2022 with 1,375 or 12.7 percent share. On the other hand, Veruela and Sta. Josefa recorded the lowest registered live births. Sta. Josefa recorded a total of 147 registered births or 1.4 percent share while Veruela has registered 87 live births or only 0.8 percent share.

The figure below also signifies increment of 12.3 percent from 2021 to 2022 in the registration of live births in the province. 

More live births were medically attended

As shown in figure 4, live births attended by health professionals increased in number for 2022 compared to the previous year. However, a significant increase in the number of live births attended by traditional birth attendants was also shown in the figure below. It accumulates a total of 10.6 percent share of the total registered live births in Agusan del Sur for 2022 which signifies 1.79 percent difference from the previous year. and only 5 or 0.1 percent share of the total birth occurrences were delivered elsewhere.

This signifies an increase in the accessibility of the health facilities in the province as well as the boosts in the awareness of the people in the community.
