Registered Live Births in Surigao del Norte: 2022
More babies are born in Surigao City
Surigao del Norte’s registered live births in 2022 reached 7,053, based on the place of occurrence. Among the city/municipalities, Surigao City showed the highest number totaling 3,875 births. On the contrary, Burgos reported the lowest figures with 4 births.
More male births than female
Figures 2 shows that there were more males born than females in the Province of Surigao del Norte. Surigao City had the highest number of registeredbirths for both sexes among the city/municipalities based on the place of occurrence, while the lowest records can be found in Burgos.
November has the most number of registered live births
Based on the month of occurrence, November had the highest number of registered live births with 742 births as shown in Figure 3, while October showed the lowest, with 328 births.
Majority of the registered births are medically attended
In 2022, 96.44 percent or majority of the birth occurrences were attended by health professionals while 3.52 percent of births were attended by traditional birth attendants. The remaining 0.04 percent of births were attended by other individuals.
Nine out of 10 births occur at the health facilities
In Surigao del Norte, 96.13 percent of births occurred at the health facilities, while 3.56 percent of births occurred at home, and 0.31 percent occurred in other places.
Most of the birth occurrences in Agusan def Sur belong to mothers aged 25- 29 years
Mothers aged 25-29 years recorded the highest count at 2,042 births, followed by mothers aged 20-24 years at 1,722. Mothers aged under 15 years recorded 12 births, while those aged 45-49 years had 17 births.
Surigao City has the highest number of registered births based on the usual residence of the mother
When in comes to birth registration based on the usual residence of the mother, Surigao City has the highest record with 2,047 births, followed by Claver and Dapa with 535 and 464 births, respectively. Meanwhile, Burgos reported the lowest figure at 62 births.
More male births than females are recorded
In 2022, there were more males born than females based on the usual residence of the mother. Among the city/municipalities in the province, Surigao City had the highest number of registered births for both sexes.
September has the most number of registered live births
The highest number of registered live births was observed in November with 690 births based on the usual residence of the mother. While the lowest was recorded in October at 302.
Nine out of 10 birth occurrences are attended by health professionals
According to the usual residence of the mother, 96.27 percent of births were attended by health professionals while 3.69 percent of births involved traditional birth practices and the remaining 0.04 percent were attended by others.
Most of the birth occurrences belong to mothers aged 25-29 years
Mothers aged 25-29 years recorded the highest number of registered births at 1,394, based on the usual residence of the mother. This was followed by mothers aged 20-24 years, 30-34 years, 35-39 years, 15-19 years, and 40-44 years. Mothers aged 45-49 years had 16 births while those under 15 years had 12 births.
Explanatory Notes
Data presented in this release were obtained from the timely and late registered births at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars of Caraga Region and submitted to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) through the Provincial Statistical Office (PSOs). The information presented includes registration of births that occurred in Surigao del Norte from January to December 2022 based on data files received by the PSA-Vital Statistics Division from the PSOs and processed as of 31 July 2023.
