Agusan del Sur shared 54.41 percent to the total palay production in 2024

Agusan del Sur produced a total of 312,379.60 metric tons of palay in 2024, contributing 54.41 percent to Caraga Region’s overall palay production. This represents the largest share among the five provinces in the region. Surigao del Sur ranked second with a 17.61 percent share, while Dinagat Islands recorded the lowest contribution at 1.23 percent. (Figure 1)

Production grew by 3.57 percent in 2024

Palay production in Agusan del Sur grew by 3.57 percent from 301,609.65 metric tons in 2023 to 312,379.60 metric tons in 2024. Among the five provinces in the region, Surigao del Sur recorded the fastest growth at 20.42 percent, followed by Dinagat Islands with 11.37 percent, while Agusan del Sur ranked third at 3.57 percent in terms of growth rate. Irrigated palay production increased by 2.63 percent

Irrigated palay production in Agusan del Sur increased by 2.63 percent from 162,493.78 metric tons in 2023 to 166,765.40 metric tons in 2024. (Figure 4)

Agusan del Sur posted the largest contribution, accounting for 46.59 percent of the total irrigated palay production in the region

Surigao del Sur recorded the fastest growth in irrigated palay production in Caraga Region, with an increase of 20.99 percent, followed by Dinagat Islands at 8.22 percent, while Agusan del Sur ranked third with a 2.63 percent increase. Despite placing third in growth rate, Agusan del Sur contributed the largest share to the region’s total irrigated palay production at 46.59 percent, equivalent to 166,765.40 metric tons. This was followed by Agusan del Norte with 19.68 percent, while Dinagat Islands posted the lowest share at 1.19 percent. (Figures 5 and 6)

Rainfed palay production increased by 4.67 percent in 2024

Rainfed palay production in Agusan del Sur increased by 4.67 percent from 139,115.87 metric tons in 2023 to 145,614.20 metric tons in 2024. (Figure 7) 

Agusan del Sur contributed 67.36 percent to the total rainfed palay production in Caraga Region

In 2024, Agusan del Sur recorded the largest share of rainfed palay production in the Caraga Region, contributing 67.36 percent or 145,614.20 metric tons. This was followed by Surigao del Sur with 15.13 percent or 32,708 metric tons, while Dinagat Islands had the smallest share at 1.30 percent or 2,803.46 metric tons. In terms of growth rate, Surigao del Sur posted the highest increase at 19.25 percent, followed by Dinagat Islands at 16.51 percent, while Agusan del Sur ranked third with a 4.67 percent growth. Area harvested for palay production in Agusan del Sur grew by 1.02 percent

The area harvested for palay production in Agusan del Sur increased by 1.02 percent, from 88,943 hectares in 2023 to 89,848 hectares in 2024. (Figure 10)

Agusan del Sur posted the largest share to the total area harvested for palay production in the region at 54.49 percent in 2024

Agusan del Sur accounted for the largest share of the total area harvested for palay production in Caraga Region, comprising approximately 54.49 percent or 89,848 hectares. This was followed by Surigao del Sur with a 17.35 percent share, equivalent to 28,606 hectares, while Dinagat Islands recorded the smallest share at 1.73 percent or around 2,852 hectares. TECHNICAL NOTES

Palay production, area and yield and other production data are generated from Palay Production Survey (PPS) which is one of the major agricultural Surveys of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The PPS is conducted nationwide every quarter of each year. It aims to generate estimates that serve as inputs for policy making and programs on palay. Production data generated from the PPS are inputs to the Performance of Agriculture Report (PAR) and preparation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Production refers to the quantity of palay actually harvested during the reference period. This includes palay that was harvested but later damaged, stolen, given away, consumed, reserved, or distributed as harvesters' and threshers' shares. However, palay produced by seed growers intended specifically for seed purposes is excluded from the Survey.

Irrigated refers to area with irrigation facilities supplying water through artificial
means like gravity, force/power, pump, etc.

Rainfed refers to area which has dikes that retain water and is solely dependent
upon rainfall for its water supply.

Share refers to a commodity's proportion or contribution to the total production within a given area or period.

Growth Rate refers to the percentage change in production compared to the previous year, indicating an increase or decrease in output over time.

Area Harvested refers to the portion of the planted area that was actually harvested during the reference period. It excludes areas that were totally damaged or left unharvested.
