Based on the preliminary result of vital statistics as of February 28, 2022, the number registered live births in Caraga from January to November 2021 reached 32,202 or 2.64 percent of the total live births in the country. This is 10.69 percent lower from the region’s record of 36,057 in the same period in 2020.
With respect to birth registration by province and highly urbanized city (HUC) in the region, all the provinces showed a decreasing trend from January to November 2020. Surigao del Sur posted the highest decline from 9,329 registered births in 2020 to 8,368 in 2021. This was followed by Surigao del Norte with a decrease of 878 in 2021 from 5,809 registered births in 2020. On the other hand, Dinagat Islands recorded the lowest decrease of 18.39 percent in 2021 from 1,066 registered live births in 2020.
Figure 3 presents the highest number of registered live births which occurred in the months of January 2020 and October 2021 at 3,706 and 3,265, respectively. The lowest number of live births were recorded in the months of March 2020 and February 2021.
Surigao City accounted the highest decrease of registered live births among the component cities in Caraga from 2,178 in January to November 2020 to 1,823 of the same period in 2021. This was followed by Bislig City from 1,566 records in 2020 to 1,233 in 2021, and Bayugan City at 1,400 in 2021 from 1,593 in 2020. Fourth in rank is Tandag City which showed a decline of 94 or 9.00 percent lower from January to November of the previous year. On the other hand, Cabadbaran City showed the lowest decrease of registered births in 2021 from 1,056 in 2020 to 936 in 2021.
The table below shows the Top 5 municipalities in Caraga which noted the highest decrease in registered births from January to November 2020 and 2021. Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur recorded the highest decline at 150 from 671 in 2020 to 521 in 2021, followed by Nasipit, Agusan del Norte; Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur; and Talacogon, Agusan del Sur. Ranked fifth is San Miguel, Surigao del Sur which is 9.32 percent lower in 2021 from 1,202 records in 2020.

Data presented in this release were obtained from the Certificates of Live Births (Municipal Form No. 102) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars of Caraga Region and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority. The information presented includes registered deaths from January to December 2021, preliminary as of 28 February 2022.
