Number of marriages increased by 63.07 percent

In 2021, the reported number of registered marriages in Caraga Region totalled 11,133 or 63.07 percent higher compared with the previous year’s record of 6,827. Data below showed a declining trend of registered marriages from 2016 to 2021 wherein the lowest number of marriages was noted in 2020.

Highest occurrence of marriages posted in Surigao del Sur

Surigao del Sur recorded the highest number of registered marriages in 2021, which accounted for 3,043 or 27.33 percent of the region’s total marriages. It was followed by Agusan del Sur with 2,981 or 26.78 percent, and Surigao del Norte with 2,063 or 18.53 percent. These three (3) provinces comprised 72.64 percent of the total marriages in Caraga. Agusan del Norte and Butuan City registered 1,603 and 1,225, respectively, while Dinagat Islands posted the lowest number of registered marriages with 218 or a share of 1.96 percent.

May and October recorded the most number of marriages 

Most of the marriages in 2021 occurred in the months of May with 1,161 and October with 1,145 with the same daily average of 37 marriages per day. This was followed by the months of July with 1,102 or an average of 36 marriages per day, and February with 1,078 or an average of 39 marriages per day. In contrast, the month of January showed the least number of marriages with only 701 or an average of 23 marriages per day, while the month of November posted 707 marriages ranking second among the months with least number of registered marriages. 

Surigao City recorded the most number of marriages among the component

With regards to marriage registration by component cities, the highest number of registered marriages in 2021 was noted in Surigao City with a total of 811. This was followed by Bislig City and Bayugan City with 627 and 547, respectively. Fourth in rank is Cabadbaran City with 400 marriages while Tandag City showed the lowest number of registered marriages with 320.

Municipality of Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur had the most number of marriages

The Top 5 municipalities in Caraga with the most number of registered marriages in 2021 is shown in figure 5. The municipalities of Prosperidad and San Francisco, Agusan del Sur posted the highest number of marriages with a total of 350 and 348, respectively. It was followed by the Municipality of Barobo, Surigao del Sur with 296 while the Municipality of Buenavista, Agusan del Norte is relatively closer with 276. Ranked fifth is the Municipality of Trento, Agusan del Sur with 249.

Data presented in this release were obtained from the Certificates of Marriages (Municipal Form No. 97) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars of Caraga Region and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority. The information presented includes registered deaths from January to December 2021, preliminary as of 28 February 2022.
