Total registered live births shows a decreasing trend for the last five years
In 2020, a total of 39,174 live births were registered in Caraga. For the last five years, number of registered births showed a generally decreasing trend. A decrease of 8.78% was noted from 42,946 registered live births in 2016 to 39,174 in 2020.
More males are born than females
Figure 2 shows that there were more males born than females in 2020. Total male births posted at 20,210 or 52.29 percent while its females counterparts accounts for 18,440 or 47.71 percent, resulting to a sex ratio at birth of 109 male births for every 100 female births .
The highest number of registered live births occur in Agusan del Sur
Among the provinces and highly urbanized city in Caraga, Agusan del Sur recorded the highest number of birth occurrences with 25.71 percent of the total. The same province noted the highest registered live births by usual residence of mother with 26.45 percent.
January records the highest registered live births at 3,585 in 2020
The month of January recorded the highest registered live births with 3,585 or a daily average of 116 births. Close in figure is the month of November 2020 with 3,512 registered births or 117 registered per day. This was followed by the months of September, October, and May with 3,476, 3,435 and 3,415 registered births, respectively. On contrary, the month of March had the lowest number of births with 2,744 birth or 89 births per day.
Majority of the birth occurrences are attended by health professionals
Of the total number of births in Caraga, 95.81 percent were attended by health professionals such as physician, midwife, or nurse. The 3.90 percent of births were delivered by hilot/traditional birth attendant while the remaining 0.29 percent were attended by persons other than the health professionals and traditional birth attendants (Figure 5).
9 out of 10 births were delivered in a health facility
When it comes birth registration by site of delivery, result shows that 9 out of 10 births were delivered in a health facility which was either in a hospital, birthing clinic, lying in, outpatient care center, specialized care center, and the like. On the other hand, 4.50 percent of the total births were delivered at home and 0.18 percent were delivered in other locations.
Majority of babies are born to mothers aged 25-29 years old
Figure 7 shows that about 26.78 of the births in Caraga were to mothers aged 20 to 24 years old, while 26.46 percent were to mothers aged 25 to 29 years old. Moreover, 11.39 percent of births were delivered by teenage mothers while around 11.16 percent were to mothers 35 to 39 years old.
More than half of babies are born to unwed mothers
In 2020, 23,105 or more than half of the total registered live births were born out of wedlock. While the remaining 41.02 percent of births were legitimate children. (Figure 8)

Data presented in this release were obtained from the Certificates of Live Births (Municipal Form No. 102) that were registered at the Office of the City/Municipal Civil Registrars of Caraga Region and forwarded to the Philippine Statistics Authority. The information presented includes registered live births from January to December 2020.
