The division-level Inter-High School Statistics Quiz convened junior high school students from across DepEd Agusan del Sur Division on October 28, at the Division Training Center. This event aims to foster statistical literacy and promote the use of data among young minds, with participation from 13 schools across the Division. Students from Binucayan, Veruela, Santa Josefa, Sta. Irene, San Luis, Bunawan, Panagangan, Novele, Del Monte, San Toribio, Padiay, Buena Suerte, and Pulang-Lupa National High School (NHS) represented their schools in a series of competitive rounds.
The quiz tested participants' foundational knowledge in statistics, data interpretation, and applications, assessing their awareness of national, regional, and provincial statistical trends and PSA's official releases. Questions also included practical applications of statistical concepts and analytical methods.
The panel of judges, consisting of Statistician II- Vherna Comagon, Planning and Development Officer I- Raylan John Cortez, and Education Program Supervisor in Mathematics- Nilo Montaño, played a crucial role in determining the winners, especially during a tie-breaking question between contestants from Sta. Josefa NHS and San Luis NHS. Following an intense competition, Veruela NHS emerged as the champion, with San Luis NHS securing the second place and Santa Josefa NHS taking the third place.
The event celebrated the achievements of these promising young statisticians and underscored the importance of data literacy in today’s world. It served as an invaluable platform for students to expand their knowledge of statistical concepts and applications, preparing them for future academic and professional challenges.
