The population of the Province of Agusan del Norte (excluding Butuan City) as of 01 July 2025 was 404,100 based on the 2024 Census of Population (POPCEN). The 2024 population of the province is higher by 16 thousand compared with the population of 387,503 in 2020; by 49 thousand compared with the population of 354,503 in 2015; and by 72 thousand compared with the population of 332,487 in 2010. (Table 1)

The population of Agusan del Norte increased by 1.54 percent annually, on average, during the period 2010 to 2020. By comparison, the rate at which the province’s population grew during the period of 2015 to 2024 was lower at 1.48 percent. (Table 2)

Among the 10 municipalities and one (1) component city of the province, the City of Cabadbaran had the biggest population in 2024 with 82 thousand, followed by the Municipality of Buenavista with 71 thousand, and Municipality of Nasipit with 46 thousand. The Municipality of Remedios T. Romualdez had the smallest population with 17 thousand. (Table 3)

The Municipality of Santiago was the fastest growing municipality in the province with an average population growth rate (PGR) of 4.09 percent for the period of 2020 to 2024. It was followed by the Municipality of Las Nieves with a PGR of 1.67 percent and the Municipality of Kitcharao with 1.53 percent. The Municipality of Remedios T. Romualdez posted the lowest PGR of 0.13 percent. (Table 4)
