National ID Registration in Agusan del Sur Hits New Milestone
31 July 2024 – Agusan del Sur. The Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) of Agusan del Sur is proud to announce that as of July 31 a remarkable 653,371 Agusanons have successfully registered for the National ID.
The City of Bayugan leads with 98,078 registrants, followed by Prosperidad with 76,589 and San Francisco with 69,436. The high numbers in these areas are due to their larger populations and effective local registration campaigns. Meanwhile, smaller municipalities like Santa Josefa and La Paz recorded 23,150 and 27,613 registrations, respectively, reflecting strong efforts in more remote areas. (Figure 1)
The initiative included extensive outreach to remote areas, ensuring all residents could participate. However, registration for children under 5 remains low at 15,815, just 2.4% of the total. Challenges include reliance on parents, difficulties in obtaining documents, and logistical issues in remote areas. To improve, targeted awareness campaigns, mobile registration units, and collaboration with health, educational institutions, and local government units are essential. (Figure 2)
Overall, the successful registration drive across all municipalities highlights the comprehensive and inclusive approach taken by the PSO and LGUs to ensure that every Agusanon has the opportunity to register for their National ID.
