The Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) of Agusan del Sur successfully conducted the 2024 Functional Literacy, Education, and Mass Media Survey (FLEMMS) Provincial Training, equipping 36 statistical researchers and nine team supervisors with the necessary skills and knowledge. The five-day training took place from September 23 to 27 in San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

FLEMMS is a national survey designed to collect comprehensive and vital data on the population's basic and functional literacy rates, as well as their educational qualifications. By assessing both the ability to read and write, and the practical skills necessary for effective communication in everyday life, FLEMMS provides a holistic view of literacy within the country. The data gathered from this survey serves as a crucial foundation for evaluating educational progress and literacy levels across various demographic groups. FLEMMS enables policymakers, educators, and stakeholders to identify trends, strengths, and areas needing improvement in the education system. Additionally, it informs the development of targeted programs and policies aimed at enhancing educational opportunities and addressing disparities in literacy rates. Ultimately, the insights derived from FLEMMS play a vital role in promoting informed decision-making and fostering a more literate and educated population.

The 2024 FLEMMS, currently being carried out by PSO-Agusan del Sur, is designed to provide a comprehensive quantitative framework that will guide the creation of policies and programs targeted at improving education and literacy rates. It is also intended to serve as a reliable baseline for these initiatives and as a critical advocacy tool in shaping national policies and development plans. The survey is implemented by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), in accordance with Rule 28 of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 10625.

In Agusan del Sur, the field enumeration started on September 30 and is expected to conclude on October 22, 2024. The survey will cover 1,551 sample households, providing a representative snapshot of the province’s population.
