Headline inflation in the Province of Dinagat Islands continue to lose speed at 3.1 percent in July 2023 from 4.6 percent in June 2023. It was also significantly lower by 7.9 percentage points compared to last year’s IR of the same month at 11.0 percent. The average inflation rate from January to July for the year was recorded at 6.6 percent. The Philippine Statistics Authority Provincial Statistical Office-Dinagat Islands recently concluded its two batches Third Level Training for the 2022 Census of Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF). The aforesaid highly successful trainings were conducted at San Jose Pension House, Justiniana Edera, San Jose, Dinagat Islands on August 14 to 21, 2023 for the 1st batch, 2023, and at the HappyNest Homestay, Sta. Cruz, San Jose, Dinagat Islands on August 23-30, 2023 for the 2nd Batch. One of the objectives of the CBMS is to provide capacity development to the Municipal Local Government in terms of computer and statistical skills. This activity allows the LGUs to generate statistics from the CBMS data for use in the analysis and planning for the development at the local level. With this, the Philippine Statistics Authority of the Province of Dinagat Islands successfully conducted the CBMS Module IIB: Data Tabulation and Analysis Using Descriptive Statistics Training on 09-11 August 2023 at HappyNest Homestay Sta. Cruz, San Jose, Dinagat Islands. The seven (7) municipalities of PDI with the Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) eagerly and actively participated during the training. The 2022 Census of Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF) represents a significant government initiative aimed at gathering essential data on the agricultural and fishery sectors within our nation. The primary objective of this undertaking is to provide government planners, policymakers, and administrators with vital information to inform their social and economic development plans, policies, and programs. The 2022 CAF seeks to ascertain the structural characteristics of the agriculture and fisheries sectors, establish a sampling framework for periodic agricultural and fishery surveys, and provide fundamental insights into crop farming, livestock, poultry, aquaculture, and fishing operations. It also aims to compile data on agricultural and fisheries facilities and services within the barangay. Headline Inflation Headline inflation in the Province of Dinagat Islands reduces further to 4.6 percent from 6.3 percent in May 2023. It was significantly lower by 4.1 percentage points compared to last year’s IR of the same month at 8.7 percent. The average inflation rate from January to June for the year was recorded at 7.3 percent. This was slightly higher than the national and regional average inflation rates posted at 7.2 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively (Table A and Figure 1). PROVINCE OF DINAGAT ISLANDS, Philippines – PSA Dinagat Islands actively joined in the simultaneous Consultation Workshop with Stakeholders and Validation of the Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) 2018 Benchmark Estimates on 07 July 2023 at BFAR Function Hall, Brgy. Don Ruben, San Jose, Dinagat Islands through a blended/hybrid setting via Zoom Teleconference hosted by the Regional Statistical Service Office (RSSO) of Cagara Region. The activity highlights the presentation of the economic structure of the provinces and HUC based on the 2018 benchmark PPA estimates to solicit feedback from stakeholders and gathered records of important news and events for validation of the estimates. It also intends to gather support and assistance from stakeholders to enhance data provision for the completion of PPA and apprise the stakeholders of the upcoming activities towards the finalization of results. The Labor Force Survey is a nationwide survey of households conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) that gathers data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. LFS aims to provide a quantitative framework as a basis for the preparation of plans and formulation of policies affecting the labor market. The 2023 Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) is a rider survey to the July 2023 and January 2024 Labor Force Survey (LFS). The LFS is a monthly and quarterly survey of households that measures the current state of the Philippine labor market. It is used to calculate national and regional key employment indicators. Meanwhile, the FIES is the country’s main source of data on family income, sources of income, family expenditure including cost and consumption volume. These are used in determining the income distribution, levels of living, spending patterns, and the degree of income inequality among families. Further, the FIES is the main source of data for the estimation of the official poverty statistics. The information generated from FIES also serve as inputs to policies and programs of the government in improving the socio-economic conditions of the Filipino people.
