The headline inflation in Caraga continued its uptrend as it accelerated further to 8.1 percent in January 2023, from 7.4 percent in December 2022 and 4.3 percent in January 2022.

This indicates that the average retail price of commodities that were included in the market basket for all goods and services during the month under review was higher by 23.9 percent compared to its prices in 2012 as reference base year. This month’s CPI was higher by 2.7 index points than the 121.2 CPI in December 2019.
In November 2020, Consumer Price Index (CPI) for all items in Caraga region increased by 2.5 percent from 120.5 in November of last year to 123.5 in November 2020. All of the commodity groups recorded an increment in indices compared last year. Also, CPI for the reference period slightly inclined by 0.1 percent from 123.4 in October 2020. Majority of the commodity groups showed higher index compared with previous month except for Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels; Transport; Communication; and Restaurants and Miscellaneous Goods and Services commodity groups.

The decrement in price was attributed merely by the decrease in price of Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages commodity groups; and Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco commodity groups.

An increasing trend was observed for CPI (all items) from April 2020 (119.6) to May 2020 (122.7). However, most of the commodity groups declined in May 2020 compared with last year’s prices of the same month.
Consumer Price Index for all items in Caraga increased by almost 6.11 percent in September 2018 compared with last year’s prices of the same month,
from 112.9 in 2017 to 119.8 in 2018. An increasing trend was also observed for CPI (all items) from August 2018 (118.1) to September 2018 (119.8). Moreover, almost all commodity groups recorded an increase in September 2018 compared with the last year’s prices of the same month.

Inflation in NCR advanced 2.7 percent in December.
AONCR, however, retained its November inflation figure of 2.6 percent. Eight regions exhibited higher annual rates during the month. Meanwhile, six regions had slower annual rates with Ilocos Region, CALABARZON and Davao Region maintaining their respective last month’s rates. The highest annual growth remained in Cagayan Valley at 4.9 percent while the lowest was still in CALABARZON at 1.5 percent. (Table 8)
Among the regions in AONCR, the highest annual average inflation in 2016 at 3.2 percent was posted in Central Visayas and Davao Region while CALABARZON had the lowest average annual inflation at 0.9 percent.
