PSA PREPARES TO CONDUCT THE QUARTERLY PALAY PRODUCTION SURVEY (PPS) AND CORN PRODUCTION SURVEY (CPS) FOR 2022
The Quarterly Palay Production Survey (PPS) and Corn Production Survey (CPS) are conducted simultaneously in all provinces of the region every first ten (days) of the month after the reference quarter (April for Quarter 1, July for Quarter 2, October for Quarter 3, and Quarter 4 is done during first 10 days of December to comply with the Philippine System of National Accounts). The production data generated from the survey are direct inputs to the Performance Report in Agriculture and Fisheries and to the computation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Moreover, the said reports support the data needs of planners, policy and decision makers, and other stakeholders in the agriculture sector especially palay and corn farmers and the general public.
The design for PPS and CPS features the use of a new frame to ensure the generation of quality estimates. Nationwide there are 67 provinces that will have survey on April round, 62 provinces for July round, 68 for October Round and 76 provinces for January round. For 2022, the production and area harvested are estimated using a combination of design-based and model-based. Under this estimation method, the top 97 percent of provinces in terms of production will be surveyed. The provinces which will not be surveyed for the quarter will use model-based estimation.
The PPS and CPS covers sample palay and corn farming households in the sample palay and corn producing barangays in the five (5) provinces of Caraga. The data collection involves gathering of data through face-to-face paper and pencil interview (PAPI) by hired Statistical Researchers (SRs) and/or PSA regular staff. Prior to the field operation, training/orientation of hired SRs will be conducted in all Provincial Statistical Offices (PSOs) to assure uniform understanding of concepts used in the survey during the data collection and processing. Likewise, PSOs will ensure that the hired SRs and/or Field Supervisors are practicing required health protocols.
All information collected by the hired Statistical Researchers and/or Field Supervisors from sample farmers shall be kept strictly confidential and shall not be used for purposes of taxation, investigation or regulation as provided under Article 55 of RA 10625.
